We have compiled a list of our most frequently asked questions on this page. If you are considering an installation related to polishing, restoration (renovation), or maintenance of floors or flooring, please read this page. If you have any questions that are not answered here, please feel free to contact us.
-
Does the wood floor dust-free sanding (renovation) only apply to solid wood flooring?
-
No. Natural wood flooring with a surface veneer thickness of 3 mm or more can be sanded, even if it is not solid wood flooring.
-
Is it possible to renovate the wood flooring in my home?
-
Yes and no. Regardless of the nature of the facility, such as home, kindergarten, store, restaurant, or hotel, solid wood flooring or natural wood flooring with a surface veneer thickness of 3 mm or more can be sanded. Please note that floors using digital prints as decorative veneers are becoming more common, especially in recent residential buildings.
-
How long does it take to restore and renovate the wood flooring?
-
It depends on the area, finish, and workability. For example, a typical LDK is a little over 10 tsubo (30-40 m2, around 20 tatami mats) in size. In this case, flooring polishing and urethane coating will take about 2 days.
-
I would like to have the flooring refinished over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday, do I have to leave two days completely free?
-
It depends on the floor plan and area, but that is not true. In some cases, construction will be done while you are still in your home. However, please note that you cannot walk while the finish coat is drying. Some customers go on overnight trips and want the work to be completed during the trip, while others go out during the day but return home in the evening and want to be able to walk after that. We will propose a suitable work plan to meet your needs.
-
We are considering renovating our floors at a store. Since we are open during the day, would you be able to handle construction at night?
-
Yes, it is possible. However, when coating and finishing with water-based urethane coatings, it may take up to 3 hours to dry, depending on the climatic conditions. When adding the work before and after the coating, it is possible to apply the coating if at least 6 hours of continuous installation time is secured. Nevertheless, we would appreciate a longer continuous installation time.
-
What is the minimum flooring area that can be renovated?
-
It is possible from 1 sqm but there is no monetary advantage. The machine used for flooring polishing is heavy and requires at least two people. Also, after polishing, the floor is coated and finished, so drying time is also required, and the smaller the area, the less efficient it is. We offer the same price for an area of less than 30 m2 (≈9 tsubo = 18 tatami mats), so if the area is smaller than that, the cost advantage will be less.
-
What is the cost benefit of wood flooring renovation compared to flooring replacement?
-
The cost is approximately 1/3 to 1/4 of the cost of replacing the flooring. However, the cost will vary greatly depending on various conditions, such as the area, construction conditions, and the quality of the flooring to be replaced. Since this method was designed for a reasonably large area, the cost advantage will not be realized if the area is too small. For example, if you renovate only one room of 6 or 8 tatami mats, the cost may be higher than replacing the flooring. Generally, the larger the area, the shorter the construction period, and the less dust is released, the greater the cost advantage.
-
Is it possible to renovate floors with underfloor heating system?
-
Yes, it's possible.
-
I know that sanding flooring with sandpaper will generate wood dust, but is it necessary to cure the flooring to prevent dust?
-
Since there is almost no dust in the air, work crews do not wear goggles or masks during installation. Specifically, the amount of airborne dust generated by the Bona dust-free sanding system is 0.1 mg/m3. The Office Regulations of the Industrial Safety and Health Law stipulate that the amount of dust in the air indoors is 0.15 mg/m3, and because it is less than this, we describe the system as virtually dust-free (= dust-free).
-
I'm concerned about the smell during construction, but do you ever smell organic solvents?
-
NO, there isn't. Bona, a company from Sweden, a country that is strict about environmental protection, places emphasis on ensuring that all of its products have no impact on the environment or the human body. There is almost no odor from the finishes other than a slight resin odor, and it will disappear in a few hours if you ventilate the room. Most of our products have obtained GREENGUARD or GREENGUARD GOLD certification, which is said to be one of the most stringent environmental standards in the world.
-
I don't want shiney, glossy floors, I prefer matte finishes. Is it possible after the renovation?
-
You can choose the gloss levels after renovation. In the past, shiny finishes and high-gloss were popular, but recently the trend has been towards matte, ex-matte, and ultra-matte finishes, which have no gloss at all and make it hard to tell whether they have been finished or not.
-
Will it also eliminate stains caused by pet scratches and excrement?
-
In most cases they can be removed. However, please contact us as this will depend on the thickness of the natural wood part of the flooring and the depth of the stain.
